ISLAMABAD, 12th February, 2016 (WAM)–Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations of Pakistan Army (ISPR), Lt. Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa, said that the paramilitary (Rangers) arrested 12, 000 terrorist elements, including 97 terrorists belonging to al-Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi along with three leaders.
He added that they were accused of involvement in major attacks on two Pakistani air bases, the Karachi airport, several regional intelligence headquarters and on police installations between 2009 and 2015.
Bajwa said they were preparing a plan to break into the central prison in Hyderabad using car bombs and six suicide bombers to free their followers, adding that the security men recovered about 350 kilograms of explosives and weapons hidden in a building.
He revealed that terrorist groups in the city of Karachi , southern Pakistan, including al-Qaeda, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Taliban were working together to launch attacks in Karachi.
Bajwa told a news conference in Karachi today that the security operations would continue till complete eradication of terrorism, adding “Our conclusion is that all the terrorist groups are trying to cooperate with each other in order to carry out terrorist attacks.”
