UAE leaders congratulate Moroccan King on Throne Day

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a cable of congratulations to King Mohammed VI of Morocco on the occasion of the Throne Day, which is observed on 30th July.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, have dispatched similar cables to King Mohammed on the occasion.

Public Prosecution highlights penalties for exposing victims, witnesses in human trafficking cases

ABU DHABI, Marking World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the Public Prosecution stated today, through posts on its social media accounts, the penalties associated with revealing the names or publishing photographs of victims or witnesses involved in human trafficking cases.

The Public Prosecution explained that, under Article (6) bis of Federal Law No. (51) of 2006 on Combatting Human Trafficking Crimes, whoever publishes by any means of publication the names or photographs of victims or witnesses involved in human trafficking cases shall be punished by imprisonment and a fine of not less than AED 10,000 or one of the two.

These posts are a part of the Public Prosecution’s ongoing campaign to heighten legal culture and awareness among members of the public.

UAE announces 1,520 new COVID-19 cases, 1,497 recoveries, 4 deaths in last 24 hours

ABU DHABI, The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced that it conducted 297,815 additional COVID-19 tests over the past 24 hours, using state-of-the-art medical testing equipment.

In a statement, the Ministry stressed its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate the early detection of coronavirus cases and carry out the necessary treatment. As part of its intensified testing campaign, MoHAP announced 1,520 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the UAE to 679,321.

According to the Ministry, the infected individuals are from various nationalities, are in a stable condition, and receiving the necessary care.

MoHAP also announced 4 deaths due to COVID-19 complications, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 1,943.

The Ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and wished COVID-19 patients a speedy and full recovery. It called on all members of the society to cooperate with health authorities, adhere to the instructions and physical distance to ensure the health and safety of all.

MoHAP also noted that an additional 1,497 individuals had fully recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 656,680.

62,064 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered during past 24 hours: MoHAP

ABU DHABI, The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has announced that 62,064 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were given in the past 24 hours.

The total number of doses provided up to today stands at 16,738,830 with a rate of vaccine distribution of 169.24 doses per 100 people.

This is in line with the Ministry’s plan to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to all members of society and efforts to reach acquired immunity resulting from the vaccination, which will help reduce the number of cases and control the virus.

Pogacar to stay on with UAE Team Emirates to 2027

ABU DHABI, UAE Team Emirates and Tadej Pogacar have put pen to paper on one of the longest contracts in the history of professional cycling, with the 22-year-old set to stay with the Emirati outfit through to 2027.

Pogacar first joined the squad in 2019 and since then has gone on to win 29 professional races including two Tour de France titles, a monument victory at Liege-Bastogne-Liege and most recently an Olympic Bronze medal.

On the return journey from his Olympic success in Tokyo, Pogacar paid a visit to the UAE where he met with Matar Suhail Al Yabhouni Al Dhaheri, UAE Team Emirates’ President, who congratulated him on his successes and cemented the exciting new deal. His success has not only inspired those around him but has sparked a new interest in cycling throughout the UAE.

Al Dhaheri said, “We are delighted to have Tadej with us for the upcoming years. Tadej is helping to transform the way people think about cycling and the bicycle in UAE. We are very proud of him and all that he and the team are achieving.

“To have sporting champions like Tadej representing our nation echoes the message and our mission, which is to encourage our people to practice sport and live healthier lifestyles.

“We are already seeing improvements and we can see more people using the bike and enjoying exercise which is an important step for our country.”

For his part, Pogacar said, “I’m really happy to be able to commit my future to the team and stay here for the next years. I feel at home here, it feels like a big family. This team is a really good fit for me, and I am fortunate to say that I have not only found colleagues but friends. I’m excited for the years ahead and what they will bring, hopefully more success for me and for the team. I hope we are inspiring lots of kids to ride bikes.”

Mauro Gianetti, UAE Team Emirates’ CEO and Team Principal, said, “We have been building a squad of young talents for the future and Tadej has been an integral part of that process since the beginning. We have seen him grow from a teenager to a young man and what he has achieved has been fantastic.
