UAE announces 78 new COVID-19 cases, 95 recoveries, 1 death in last 24 hours

ABU DHABI, The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced that it conducted 317,823 additional COVID-19 tests over the past 24 hours, using state-of-the-art medical testing equipment.

In a statement, the Ministry stressed its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate the early detection of coronavirus cases and carry out the necessary treatment. As part of its intensified testing campaign, MoHAP announced 78 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the UAE to 740,879.

According to the Ministry, the infected individuals are from various nationalities, are in a stable condition, and receiving the necessary care.

MoHAP also announced 1 death due to COVID-19 complications, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 2,143.

The Ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and wished COVID-19 patients a speedy and full recovery. It called on all members of the society to cooperate with health authorities, adhere to the instructions and physical distance to ensure the health and safety of all.

MoHAP also noted that an additional 95 individuals had fully recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 735,457.

World Diabetes Day: SEHA provides world-class preventative services for patients with diabetes

ABU DHABI, Ahead of World Diabetes Day, Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), the UAE’s largest healthcare network, is reminding the public of its leading facilities and services for diabetes, that are in line with the highest international standards.

Across its network, SEHA regularly supports patients – children and adults – who have diabetes and help them through comprehensive treatment plans that allow them to lead healthy and stable lives.

The Ambulatory Healthcare Services conducts preventive examinations for its patients periodically in line with the standards of the Abu Dhabi Department of Health. The services are offered through the “Our Medical Home” program, where the family doctor is responsible for following up the periodic examinations of the patients.

The Ambulatory Healthcare Services have developed an integrated system of performance indicators that include the percentages of periodic examinations in addition to the percentage of patients controlling their chronic diseases.

The Ambulatory Healthcare Services provides the latest technologies for the treatment of diabetic patients, including the Sudoscan examination which shows neuropathic abnormalities and complications within 3 minutes and without any pain.

Sheikh Khalifa Medical City’s (SKMC) Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology offers the latest treatment methods for all types of diabetes-related diseases and their complications. The center provides footcare for diabetics, insulin treatments, and blood pressure monitoring. The center also provides preventive treatments to reduce the risk of complications as well as educational support about diabetes, and how to maintain a relatively normal lifestyle while living with the condition.

The Diabetes and Endocrinology Clinic at Tawam Hospital provides the latest diagnostic technologies and devices for the treatment of diabetes in adults, children and pregnant women.

At Corniche Hospital, as part of their antenatal care, pregnant women are checked for gestational diabetes and are closely monitored by the multidisciplinary medical team of experts including obstetricians, gestational diabetes specialists, and fetal medicine specialists.

Dr. Soha Saeed, Consultant and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Corniche Hospital, said: “Corniche Hospital uses the latest blood glucose meters, which is applied to the mother’s arm, and automatically measures and records blood glucose levels for a whole week while she is at her home. Based on the readings, a tailored management plan is developed to control the mother’s blood sugar, and to monitor the pregnancy on an ongoing basis, ensuring a healthy fetus and pregnancy.”

In Al Dhafra Hospitals, comprehensive healthcare is provided to diabetic patients, using the latest technologies, and by developing a treatment plan according to the highest international standards. The medical services also consider the patient’s condition, while ensuring the stability of his condition, and preventing complications.

Dr. Muhammad Abdul-Rahman Al-Hussein, an internal medicine specialist at Madinat Zayed Hospital, affiliate of Al Dhafra Hospitals, said: “Patients with diabetes should pay attention to their health condition, especially the feet, as diabetic foot syndrome (DFD) is one of the most common complications that diabetic patients suffer from. DFD can often develop from a simple inconvenience to complicated debilitations.”

He added: “There are three main factors that affect the feet of diabetic patients, the first of which is the lack of blood circulation in the main arteries of the feet; the second factor is diabetic neuropathy as a result of the peripheral nervous system being affected; and the third factor is that infections that occur as a result of all the previous factors.”

World Diabetes Day on 14th November provides an opportunity to raise awareness of diabetes as a global public health issue and what needs to be done, collectively and individually, for better prevention, diagnosis and management of the condition.

35,116 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered during past 24 hours: MoHAP

ABU DHABI, The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has announced that 35,116 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were given in the past 24 hours.

The total number of doses provided up to today stands at 21,537,698 with a rate of vaccine distribution of 217.76 doses per 100 people.

This is in line with the Ministry’s plan to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to all members of society and efforts to reach acquired immunity resulting from the vaccination, which will help reduce the number of cases and control the COVID-19 virus.

Over 30 global energy leaders to convene in Abu Dhabi for CEO Roundtable ahead of ADIPEC

ABU DHABI, Over 30 of the world’s leading energy chief executives will gather in Abu Dhabi tomorrow, to discuss key issues impacting the energy landscape and the outcomes of the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), at the 7th Abu Dhabi CEO Roundtable hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).

The industry leaders have been invited to the roundtable by Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO. This invitation-only gathering will be held under Chatham House rules and will provide an important opportunity for the chief executives to share views on a wide range of issues including mitigating a supply crunch and the energy transition.

Dr Al Jaber said: “Coming immediately after the COP26 conference in Glasgow, the Abu Dhabi CEO Roundtable provides a timely opportunity for global energy leaders to convene and exchange views on how our industry can effectively contribute to addressing the outcomes of COP26. The high-level participation in the Abu Dhabi CEO Roundtable reinforces Abu Dhabi’s leadership role in shaping the global energy dialogue. The roundtable will take place on the eve of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2021 and follows the recent announcement that Abu Dhabi will host COP28 in 2023.

ADCC announces ground-breaking ceremony for new cycling hub at Hudayriyat

ABU DHABI, Abu Dhabi Cycling Club (ADCC) announced the ground-breaking of a new Cycling Hub at Hudayriyat Island, Abu Dhabi’s latest leisure, sports, recreation and camping destination developed by Modon Properties, in the presence of its new Title Sponsor G42, the Abu Dhabi-based AI and Cloud Computing company.

The ceremony was attended by Matar Suhail Al Yabhouni, ADCC Chairman; Khalid Bin Shaiban, Vice Chairman Aref Al Awani General Secretary ADSC; Dr. Aref Al Hammadi Board Member ADCC; Al Nekhaira Al-Khyeli, CEO, ADCC, and Bill O’Regan, CEO of Modon Properties. The event also saw the attendance of Mansoor AlMansoori, Group COO, G42, who welcomed G42 as the Title Sponsor of the Cycling Hub.

The new hub will be established in accordance with the latest international standards of cycling. It will have facilities such as indoor smart cycling, bike rental, bike storage, food and beverage court and retail outlets, plus a plaza for cycling events. It will also serve as the leading cycling area on Hudayriyat Island.

Al Yabhouni emphasised the Club’s endeavour to interact positively with cycling fans, providing them with technical and logistical capabilities and training to attain a professional level in the sport.

He said that cycling has gained positive momentum in Abu Dhabi when the city was awarded the prestigious UCI Bike City label by the Union Cycliste Internationale, the world governing body for cycling, making the capital the first city in Asia to receive this world-class title.
