$5 billion of UAE investments in Brazil: Minister of Economy

BU DHABI, 15th April, 2023 (WAM) — Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, said that the Emirati-Brazilian partnership is based on solid foundations of friendship and respect for mutual interests. ”The bilateral relations between the two countries have experienced real development in a variety of political and economic spheres, and they have been enhanced by several official visits at the level of the two countries’ leaders as well as top government officials, Al Marri told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the occasion of the state visit by the Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to the UAE. “The Brazilian President’s visit to the UAE, and his meeting with President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, provides a new impetus to the expansion of bilateral relations toward broader and more diverse horizons, in a way that serves the development agendas of both friendly countries,” the minister added. During the past period, the two countries, had maintained a fruitful cooperation across many vital sectors such as industry, transportation, shipping, storage, infrastructure, construction, management of ports, energy, mining, the financial and banking sector, real estate activities, and others. The governments of the two countries, he continued, have been keen to facilitate trade, investment and tourism exchange, and trade and investment figures speak volumes for the growth of relations between the two countries. “The total non-oil foreign trade for the year 2022 between the UAE and Brazil crossed the US$4 billion mark, a growth of 32 percent from more than US$3 billion in 2021,” the minister added. ccording to bin Touq the UAE is Brazil’s top trading partner in the Arab region, while Brazil is one of the Emirates’ most important and recognised partners in Latin America. “In terms of investments, the UAE is among the largest international investors in Brazil, with an estimated US$5 billion in Emirati investments in Brazil, with the presence of major Emirati companies such as Mubadala, the largest Emirati investor in Brazil, DP World, Emirates Airlines, First Abu Dhabi Bank, Yahsat, and others.” l Marri added that despite this remarkable growth in bilateral relations, vast economic potential, particularly in sustainable development, remain untapped. “We feel the moment has come to explore opportunities for more cooperation in new economic areas that suit both countries’ sustainable development agendas over the coming period,” the minister concluded.

4,600 new households to benefit from NAF’s unified cash program

The number of new households included in Jordan’s unified cash assistance program provided by National Aid Fund (NAF) reached about 4,600 families, after the targeting conditions were met, out of 6,000 households that were visited during Ramadan. The new families will receive their allocations at end of the current month of April, NAF Director General , Khitam Shneikat, told “Petra” on Sunday. Shneikhat added that the number of beneficiaries from the NAF’s unified cash assistance program stood at 120,000 families so far. On inclusion mechanism, she noted NAF conducts a monthly e-survey on families benefiting from the unified cash assistance program, to rearrange the poorest families, adding that households that improve their living standard are scrapped from the aid list and new benefciaries are introduced instead. Registration in the program for families that did not apply previously is still open electronically at the link (takaful.naf.gov.jo), which will continue until end of 2023.

KSrelief Distributes More than 19 tons of Food Baskets in Senegal

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) distributed 19 tons and 950 kilograms of food baskets to the neediest families in the Waakem region of Dakar, benefiting 285 families as part of the 2023 food basket project in the Republic of Senegal.

This comes as part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s relief and humanitarian efforts through its KSrelief arm to support people in need and countries worldwide.

OIC Welcomes Prisoner Exchange Operation in Yemen

The Secretariat General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed a prisoner exchange operation between the Yemeni government and the Houthis.

In these days of the blessed month of Ramadan, the OIC Secretary General, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, welcomed this significant humanitarian initiative, saying it would give returning detainees, their families in particular, and the Yemeni people in general, hope.

He also expressed appreciation for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg’s efforts in this operation, hailing the mediation efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Omani authorities. He expressed the hope that the operation of exchanging prisoners and detainees would help to give the peace efforts in Yemen a new impetus.

Vice Foreign Minister Receives US Chargé d’Affaires to Saudi Arabia

Eng. Waleed bin AbdulKarim El-Khereiji, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Martina Strong, the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, today to bid her farewell on the occasion of the end of her tenure as Chargé d’Affairs to Saudi Arabia.

During the meeting, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation for Martina Strong’s efforts in strengthening Saudi-American relations and contributing to pushing them towards broader horizons. He also wished her success in her new mission.
