ABU DHABI, 12th December, 2016 (WAM)–H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received here on Monday, Don Pramudwinai, Thailand’s Foreign Minister.

During the meeting held at the ministry, they discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them, as well as exchanging views on the latest developments at the regional and international levels.

Sheikh Abdullah welcomed the Thai Foreign Minister, noting that this visit is important as it will further bolster cooperation between the two countries. He added the relations between the UAE and Thailand were established 40 years ago.

He said the meeting is an opportunity to pay the condolences to the Government, and people of Thailand, on the passing of His Majesty the King of Thailand.

The UAE Foreign Minister underlined the importance of cooperation between the UAE and Thailand in the area of food security that could boost the relations between the two friendly countries.

Sheikh Abdullah said the UAE and Thailand will continue to work closely to deepen understanding and exchange views to serve mutual interests, as well as tackle challenges throughout the region and the world.

The Thai FM thanked President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and H.H. Sheikh Abdullah, for expressing condolences to the passing of the King of Thailand.

He said both sides have nominated representatives to push further forward the cooperation on the food security and energy. The Thai FM expressed willingness of Thailand to set up joint projects with the UAE in the areas of food industry, with focus on halal and non-halal food.

The meeting was also attended by Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Political Affairs.
