CAIRO, 13th July, 2016 (WAM) — The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, has met with the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, and members of the Parliament Office, and discussed developments and important Arab issues, particularly those of terrorism and the Palestinian issue, as well as the Syrian crises and refugees.

The Speaker of the Arab Parliament congratulated the Secretary-General on assuming his new post and wished him success in his duties, praising the efforts of the former Secretary-General, Dr. Nabil Elaraby, during his tenure.

A statement issued by the Arab Parliament on Tuesday said that the meeting touched on ways to strengthen relationships of cooperation between the Arab Parliament and the General- Secretariat of the Arab League for the development of joint Arab action.

The statement said that Aboul-Gheit affirmed the importance of the role played by the Arab Parliament to serve achieving the interests of the Arab nation.

Al Jarwan said that the meeting with Aboul-Gheit was positive and dealt with various Arab situations. He pointed out that the Secretary-General of the Arab League expressed his appreciation for the role played by the Arab Parliament to support the joint Arab action.

Al Jarwan stressed that the positive position of the Secretary-General will open up a lot of wide horizons for the Arab Parliament in the coming period to contribute effectively in solving the current issues in the Arab region.
