AJMAN, 30th January, 2017 (WAM) — H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, has praised the efforts of the UAE’s Thumbay Group for establishing and implementing vital projects.

These include the development of the Gulf University Hospital, as well as a specialised dentistry hospital, a centre for physical therapy and rehabilitation, and a centre for scientific research in Al Jarf, Ajman.

The UAE encourages investment in all fields, especially in medicine and health, he said. He also highlighted the support of the country’s leadership towards domestic, Arab and foreign investors.

He urged Emirati investors and business leaders to allocate part of their investments to the health sector, in order to establish and build more general hospitals, specialist medical centres and specialist hospitals.

The statement was made during his welcome to a delegation from the Thumbay Group, which was presided over by its President and Founder, MoideenThumbay, and University Director Dr. Hossam Hamdy. The meeting discussed the university’s plan to build academic centres and establish academic services and research systems to improve medical education and health services in Ajman.

It also aims to co-operate with the Ministry of Health, as well as other hospitals and medical centres nationwide, to improve the region’s health services.

The delegation discussed the phases of construction for the new university hospital, which will increase its capacity from 350 beds to 700 beds by 2017. They also discussed the plans to establish a dentistry hospital that will include 80 new dentistry centres, as well as a centre for physical therapy and rehabilitation that will become a leading centre of its kind in the UAE. They then reviewed plans for co-operation with equivalent European centres.

The state-of-the-art GMU Hospital, a 300-bed facility, will be the teaching hospital of the Gulf Medical University. The hospital will be equipped with modern infrastructure and will also focus on medical tourism also. Spread over 320,000 square feet, in four floors, and with over 120 clinics, the hospital will feature a special robotic pharmacy, a first of its kind in the region, and will have tertiary care facilities.

The hospital will also have a full-fledged radiology department with PET-CT scan, a first of its kind in northern emirates. The state of the art laboratory will be connected to CABRI (Centre for Advanced Biomedical Research and Innovation) via an unmanned chute, to offer highly specialised tests and diagnostic facilities.

The Thumbay Group President expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Ajman Ruler for his constant support to the university since its establishment and its goal of enhancing academic performance. He also praised the efforts of the Ministry of Health in supporting its academic and educational programmes.
