AL AIN, Director-General of the Zoo and Aquarium Public Institution in Al Ain, Ghanim Mubarak Al Hajeri, has said the institution will offer full co-operation to help regulate possession, trade and breeding of dangerous animals, now governed by a new federal law.

The head of the wildlife sanctuary stressed the importance of Federal Law No. 22 of 2016, issued by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

He assured that the body was willing to help achieve the law's objectives and provide all possible support for regulating the possession of wild animals and protecting human beings as well as animals.

Speaking about the role that the law can play in protecting individuals and communities, he said it would also promote the cause of animal rights, with a focus on wild animals.

He stressed the importance of clearing certain misunderstandings when it comes to possessing wild animals and advised that such inclinations must be resisted.

The law was proof of the wisdom of the UAE leadership and its keenness to protect all citizens and residents of the UAE, Al Hajeri said.

The Al Ain Zoo is considering setting up a special section for seized and abandoned animals as part of expansion plans.
