VIENNA, 25th April 2016 (WAM) – Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), today visited the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID) in Vienna, where she was received by Fahad Abualnasr, Director- General, Peter Kaiser, Director of Public Affairs and other officials at the Centre.

Dr. Al Qubaisi praised the vision of the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and lauded the role of the KAICIID in promoting tolerance.

She said that fighting terrorism should not be only by weapons, but also by dialogue to correct the extremist thought and pre-emptive measures to foil terrorists’ sinister conspiracies.

Dr. Al Qubaisi also underlined the UAE’s deep rooted ties with the brotherly Saudi Arabia and referred to the UAE’s role in Yemen’s re-construction efforts and in providing support to the Syrian refugees.

She briefed the centre’s officials about the recent structural change in the government of the UAE and creation of ministerial portfolios for tolerance, happiness and youth affairs.

She also extended an invitation to the officials there to visit the UAE.

Abualnasr briefed Dr. Al Qubaisi and her accompanying delegation about the centre’s vision, mission and objectives. He praised the measures taken by the UAE to fight hate speech, extremism and contempt for religions.

KAICIID is an inter-governmental organisation whose mandate is to promote the use of dialogue globally to prevent and resolve conflict, and to enhance understanding and co-operation.
