BRUSSELS, 27th April, 2016 (WAM) - Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), met here today with Michele Alliot-Marie, Chair of Arab Peninsula at the European Parliament (EP).

Dr. Al Qubaisi conveyed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, to Alliot-Marie.

She highlighted during the meeting the efforts made by the UAE, under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to boost international peace and security and alleviate the sufferings caused by humanitarian and political crises.

Dr. Al Qubaisi also appreciated the role played by the Arab Peninsula Committee and referred to the FNC's keenness to strengthen ties with the EP. She offered UAE's condolences for the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels.

Michele Alliot-Marie welcomed Dr. Al Qubaisi and said that she is aware that Islam does not condone or support terrorist acts under any circumstances.

Dr. Al Qubaisi underlined UAE's efforts as part of the Saudi-led Arab Coalition to restore legitimacy in Yemen, as well as its humanitarian efforts there. She also pointed to the Iranian government's hand in the situations in Yemen and Syria.

"Many Iranians live and work in the Arabian Gulf, but the Iranian government has a different agenda. This is evident in Iran's continuous intervention in the Arab countries' affairs. We believe that the Iranian government is not interested in peace and stability of the region," she added.

During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation and opening channels of communication was signed by the two sides.

At the end of the meeting, Dr. Al Qubaisi extended an invitation to Michele Alliot-Marie to attend the 11th Meeting of Women Speakers of Parliament, to be held in the UAE next December.
