SAINT PETERSBURG, 6th June, 2016 (WAM) – Alexander Govorunov, Vice-Governor of the Russian city of Saint Petersburg, today received Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), who is on a visit to Russia at the invitation of Chairperson of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko.
Govorunov welcomed Dr. Al Qubaisi and her accompanying delegation and congratulated her on her election as the first woman to head a parliamentary body in the Arab world and the Middle East.
The meeting discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance co-operation between the UAE and Russia in investment, economic, tourism and cultural fields.
Dr. Al Qubaisi underlined the achievements for women’s empowerment in the UAE, under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
She referred to the steps taken by the UAE to fight extremist and terrorist ideologies, saying the country is home to people from over 200 nationalities, who live together in peace and harmony.
She added that the UAE has recently created a ministerial portfolio for the youth, which is overseen by a 22-year-old minister, the youngest in the world.
Present during the meeting were Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Zaabi, Second Deputy FNC Speaker, and the FNC members, Dr. Saeed Abdullah Al Mutawa, Jamal Mohammed Al Hai, Khalfan Abdullah bin Yokha, and Afra Rashid Al Basti.
