CAIRO, 29th May, 2016 (WAM) — Arab Foreign Ministers have re-affirmed their support for the French initiative efforts to expand international participation to solve the Palestinian issue, starting with a meeting of the International Support Group on 3rd June, 2016, and to accelerate holding the international Conference for Peace.

They also affirmed the need for the creation of a multilateral mechanism to work on ending Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent sovereign Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital based on the 1967 borders, according to the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002 and international legitimacy resolutions, and to set a timetable for negotiations and the implementation of their outcomes within the framework of a new international follow-up mechanism.

This came in a decision issued by the Arab League Council at the level of Arab Foreign Ministers at the conclusion of its extraordinary session held yesterday at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, with the participation of Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas.

The council urged the international community to criminalise Israeli settlements, to put Israeli settlement organisations on lists of terrorist organisations, and to prosecute its members before international courts.
