NEW YORK, 3rd May, 2016 (WAM) — The Arab Group at the United Nations has called for permanent representation, with full powers, in case of an expansion of the UN Security Council.

This came during a speech delivered on behalf of the Arab Group, by Kuwaiti Permanent Delegate to the UN, Ambassador Mansour Ayyad Al-Otaibi at a meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiations on Security Council Reform.

According to Kuwaiti News Agency, Al-Otaibi stressed the need for suitable representation of the Arab countries at the Security Council, indicating that it makes up 12 percent of the UN membership.

He said that several Arab issues discussed by the Security Council reflect the necessary representation of the group at the council, so as to guarantee allowing for Arab views during discussions.
