CAIRO, 23rd December, 2015 (WAM) — The Arab League has welcomed the Greek parliament’s approval to recognise the State of Palestine, in a session attended by Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, on Tuesday.

“This is “an positive and important step” towards peace,” said Assistant Secretary General for Palestine and occupied Arab lands, Saeed Abu Ali, in a statement.

“It is time for parliaments around the world to recognise the State of Palestine, which was recognised by the UN as a state on the basis of the June 4th, 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital,” he added.

Abu Ali said the Arab League was urging parliaments worldwide to recognise the Palestinian state.
