Mr. Shunsuke Takei, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, who is visiting Nairobi (Kenya) for the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICADVI) Summit attended the High-Level Side Event, TICAD Support for Good Governance in Africa,rdquo; hosted by the United Nations at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) for about 1hour and 30 minutes from 9:00 am (local time: 3:00pm in Japan) on August 26 (Friday) and delivered a speech.
In his remarks, Mr. Takei stated that peace and stability cannot be achieved without democratic governance and that Agenda 2063 and Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development confirmed the importance of governance. He welcomed the active initiatives by African countries in the area of peace and security and stressed the importance of deepening discussion for implementing the existing policy framework.
Reference: The United Nations hosted this side event on August 26 from 9am to 11am. Key participants include H.E. Mr. Maged Abdelaziz, Under Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Africa, H.E. Mr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, and H.E. Ms. Mariam Mahamat Nour, Minister of Planning and Prospective of the Republic of Chad. Discussions were held on the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and the African Governance Architecture (AGA), African Union initiatives for enhancing political and economic governance, as well as the proposed APRM Index and African Human Security Index.
