VIENNA, 22nd May, 2016 (WAM) — Voters in Austria’s presidential election have begun casting their ballots to determine their next president.

The two presidential candidates, former Greens leader, Alexander van der Bellen, and far-right Freedom Party candidate, Norbert Hofer, are competing in Sunday’s run-off election, four weeks after Hofer unexpectedly won the first round with 35 percent of the vote.

There are over 6 million eligible voters in Austria, and if he wins, Hofer will become the European Union’s first far-right head of state.
