VIENNA, 10th January, 2017 (WAM) — Hans Peter Doskozil, Austrian Defence Minister, yesterday revealed his government plans, in coordination with other member states of the European Union, to stop accepting asylum applications in Europe and confine them in Africa or in the Middle East.

According to Reuters, Mr. Doskozil said that the plan would overhaul the European Union’s migrant policy by establishing a ceiling for migration and only permitting applications for asylum to be made from outside the EU.

Mr. Doskozil added that changes were urgently needed to create a more orderly system of legal migration for those entitled to asylum in the bloc, and stressed the need to reconsider the asylum system in Europe, and bring about the destruction of criminal networks that smuggle migrants.

Mr. Doskozil will present the plan at a meeting of the Central European Defence Cooperation, CEDC, in February, and aims “to promote the plan forcefully in Brussels and curb the flow of refugees to Europe”.
