ABU DHABI, For the third year, the Egyptian capital, Cairo, will host the opening races of the Silver Jubilee of the 25th UAE President Cup Series for Purebred Arabian Horses on Saturday.
Matar Suhai Al Yabhouni, Chairman of the Event's Organising Committee, stated that Cairo will sponsor the first leg of this prestigious series of races in 2018.
"The event carries special significance, as it will celebrate the Year of Zayed. The series will be held in ten major capital cities across the world," Al Yabhouni said.
Faisal Al Rahmani, General Coordinator of the Race, added, "A total of 54 horses will participate in six races, which will have a prize purse of EGP490,000, the largest in horse racing history, since the establishment of the Egyptian National Horseracing Authority in 1890."
The races will be held under the patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, to promote purebred Arabian horse races around the world.
Established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan 15 years ago to promote and celebrate the Arabian horse, especially in Europe and North America, and prove that they can race competitively with thoroughbred horses, the UAE President Cup Series is the first international race series for Arabian horses, and remains the premier races for the breed.
The UAE has become a dedicated supporter of the mission to promote the culture and heritage of the Arabian Peninsula through its prized possession, the purebred Arabian horse.
The Emirates Equestrian Federation launched the races in 1994 to promote the breed globally, which is now growing in popularity and appeal.
The races aim to promote the UAE's efforts to create global awareness about the horses, as well as their significance in the country's culture and history.
