OTTAWA, Canada, 30th January, 2017 (WAM) — Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, has condemned the attack on a mosque in Quebec on Sunday that has apparently left six people dead.

Mr. Trudeau said that Canadians grieve for those killed in a cowardly attack on the mosque in Quebec City, expressing condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.

Police in Quebec confirmed that the attack on the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Centre caused deaths and injuries but has not provided a specific count. Local media reported that at least five people died and executives of the Islamic Cultural Centre have raised the figure to six.

Philippe Couillard, Premier of Quebec, said, “Let’s unite against violence. We stand in solidarity with the Muslim people of Quebec, calling the attack “barbaric”.

According to local media reports, the directors of the Islamic Cultural Centre said that the attack occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday local time when dozens of people were gathered in the mosque for evening prayer.
