RIYADH, -- A number of Al Qaeda leaders and militants were arrested in the east of Yemen, the Coalition Command to Support the Legitimacy in Yemen said in a statement on Saturday.
"The coalition helicopters carried out an air operation in support of the anti-terrorism forces of the Yemeni army, which last night launched a pre-emptive operation as part of its tracking of the Al Qaeda organisation's hideouts in the city of Mukalla, arresting a number of members and senior leaders of the Al Qaeda terrorist organisation in the valley of Adem in Hadramaut from different nationalities, including Ahmed Saeed Awad Barhamah, nicknamed, "Zarqawi", the prominent leader of the organisation, in the Tawila area in the city of Mukalla," according to the statement delivered by the Saudi Press Agency.
The operation also resulted in the thwarting of terrorist plots through the confiscation of various equipment and weapons.
The operation is the second of its kind, following the arrest of Abu Ali Al Sairi, Al Qaeda's second leader in Hadramout, in Wadi Hadramaut.
