Crown Prince of Fujairah opens Fifth Arab Conference for Investment in Food Security

FUJAIRAH, 3rd May, 2016 (WAM) – H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, opened today at Fujairah Novatel Hotel the Fifth Arab Conference for Investment in Food Security, organised by Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah.

The two- day event is being held in association with the Federation of the Arab Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, UAE Ministry of Climatic Change and Environment, and the Federation of GCC Chambers, in addition to the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Arab Organisation for Agricultural Development (AOAD), the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), and the Arab Fund for Food Processing Industries.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Khalifa Date Palm Award and Agricultural Innovation, who is also the guest of honour, Sheikh Dr. Rashid bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority, and Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment.

While opening the conference, the Crown Prince of Fujairah welcomed the participants including agricultural, food sector and investment officials from different Arab countries. He conveyed to them the regards of the Ruler of Fujairah and his wishes for the success of the conference.

Sheikh Mohammed stressed the keenness of the Ruler of Fujairah to support resolutions at the conference. He noted that the convention of the conference reflects interest of the leadership in boosting food security and sustainable development.

He called for adopting policies that boost agricultural development to achieve Arab food security.

The Crown Prince of Fujairah honoured Sheikh Nahyan, who is a guest of honour. Sheikh Mohammed also received a memento shield presented to the Ruler of Fujairah by the Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Sheikh Nahyan delivered a speech in which he expressed his satisfaction about participation at the conference, which contributes to developing agriculture in the Arab region. He stressed the endeavour of the UAE to lead agricultural innovation, with an aim to achieving sustainable development.

He thanked the Ruler of Fujairah for his initiative to make the emirate the best in introducing modern methods in terms of production, marketing and tackling all challenges with regard to food security.

Sheikh Nahyan referred to the importance of the Khalifa International Date Palm Award and Agricultural Innovation and its contribution towards agricultural innovation.

Al Zeyoudi said the UAE is a pioneer when it comes to food security, adding that it has been ranked first in the Arab world and 23rd globally. He noted that the UAE assists developing countries in the agricultural sector through provision of modern technologies to achieve food security.
