ISLAMABAD, 4th April, 2016 (WAM) – Death toll from reported rain-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK),north west Pakistan, Kashmir and northern Gilgit-Baltistan rose to 71 .
In Kohistan, a district of KPK, ten people were killed and nine others wounded when lightning struck their houses today.
According to Disaster Management Authority, rescuers are trying to reach thousands of people stranded due to rains and landslides in the regions hit since Saturday.
Communication link has been disconnected in Gilgit Baltistan and heavy land sliding has damaged Karakorum Highway between Gilgit and Chilas.
Chief Minister of KPK Province Pervez Khattak has directed to take necessary steps for the rehabilitation of the rain-affected people.
An official in KPK Province said the entire government machinery is carrying out relief activities in rain-hit areas. He said relief goods including tents, blankets and edibles have been dispatched to most affected areas of Shangla, Swat, Upper Dir and Lower Dir.
Pakistan is experiencing an annual severe weather conditions leading to hundreds of deaths . The torrential rain caused serious losses to orchards and other standing crops.
