DUBAI, 19th January, 2017 (WAM) — Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO and MD of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, has welcomed a delegation led by Hisashi Michigami, Japanese Consul General in Dubai, along with Jumpei Yamaguchi, Vice Consul of the Economic Section of the Consulate General of Japan, and Hikaru Mizuno, Director of the Japan External Trade Organisation, JETRO.
Al Tayer stressed the importance of enhancing co-operation with Japanese energy companies, as well as enhancing economic and commercial relations between Japan and the UAE.
The DEWA chief highlighted the steps for building a long-term relationship between the two countries. The meeting focussed on DEWA’s projects, which aim to enhance economic, environmental and social sustainability while contributing to develop Dubai as the smartest and happiest city in the world.
Al Tayer also stressed the importance of diversifying energy resources and increasing reliance on solar projects to meet future requirements in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050. The strategy aims to provide 7 percent of Dubai’s energy from clean energy sources by 2020, which will be increased to 25 percent by 2030 and 75 percent by 2050.
The visiting delegation lauded DEWA’s efforts to achieve sustainable development across the Emirate and praised the services DEWA provides to Dubai-based Japanese companies.
