ABU DHABI, Emirates Medicine Bank, part of the Zayed Giving Initiative, ZGI, has provided free medicine to 1,000 underprivileged children and elderly people in Tanzania.
The humanitarian medical mission in Tanzania, supervised by volunteer doctors from several countries, was part of ZGI's efforts to support President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan's declaration for 2017 to be the "Year of Giving."
Dr. Adel Al Shammeri, CEO of ZGI, said Emirates Medicine Bank is a breakthrough international humanitarian drive that seeks to gather spare medical supplies and medication for the benefit of disadvantaged patients around the world.
''Our plan for the next phase is to increase the medicine stock by sending volunteer teams to companies and households to collect spare medicine and equipment so as to be redistributed to needy patients through Emirati mobile clinics and mobile volunteer hospitals after we make sure they are safely fit for consumption,'' he added.
