MUKALLA, -- The Emirates Red Crescent has distributed food packages to thousands of Yemeni families in the old city in Mukalla, in the second phase of an intensive humanitarian assistance plan in the provincial capital of Hadhramaut.

Food packages were delivered to 5,327 families in the old Foua neighbourhood, and 1,639 families in the Masaken area.

Some 3,688 food packages will be delivered to beneficiaries tomorrow in the old Foua neighbourhood.

A food package is enough to sustain an average family for one month.

The second phase of the humanitarian effort was launched after the Mukalla was liberated from the al-Qaeda terror organisation in 24th April.

To date, some 80,000 families have benefited from the UAE initiative, the Emirates Red Crescent team said.
