LUSAKA, 23rd March 2016 (WAM) — Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC), has met with Saber Hossain Chowdhury, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union on the sidelines of the 134th assembly of the international organisation which concluded today in the Zambian capital.

During the meeting, Al Qubaisi thanked Chowdhury for highlighting the UAE’s support to development, security and stability in the region, as well as its efforts to promote values of peace, tolerance and justice against terror and extremism.

Earlier this month, Chowdhury met His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, in Abu Dhabi.

Al Qubaisi also noted that the Federal National Council is involved in the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s efforts to promoted democracy, sustainable development and international peace and security.

Chowdhury noted that electing Al Qubaisi last year as the first female in the region to lead a national assembly was an “unprecedented and historic development” in the Arab region and the whole Middle East.
