BERLIN, 12th March, 2017 (WAM) -- The Federal National Council (FNC) delegation, led by Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the FNC, has held talks with Prof. Norbert Lammert, President of the German Parliament (Bundestag) during which they stressed the importance of promoting relations between the two countries.

Both parties stressed the importance of establishing the UAE-German Parliamentary Friendship Commission to further promote co-ordination and consultation, exchange of visits and views on issues of mutual interest, and support current diplomatic co-operation in all areas, while praising the level of co-operation in the economic, trade, investment, tourism and educational fields.

They also stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy for both parliaments, and the necessity of co-ordination while participating in international parliamentary events, especially the International Parliamentary Union.

The meeting was attended by the FNC delegation that included Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Zaabi, Second Deputy of the FNC Speaker, Dr. Mohamed Abdullah Mahrazi, Dr. Saeed Abdullah Al Mutawa, Azza Suleiman bin Suleiman, Saeed Saleh Al Rumaithi, Hamad bin Ghulaita Al Ghafli, and Ali Abdullah Al Ahmed, UAE Ambassador to Germany.

Prof. Lammert welcomed Dr. Al Qubaisi and her accompanying delegation, while highlighting the importance of this visit in the promotion of cooperative ties, especially in terms of parliamentary relations, and the discussion of many issues of mutual interest, in light of unfolding developments in the Middle East and the world.

He praised the election of Dr. Al Qubaisi as FNC Speaker, the first woman to head a parliamentary institution in the Arab region and the Middle East, while appreciating the achievements of UAE women.

The German official also highlighted the importance of empowering youth and students, and establishing communication between people in the Arab world and European countries.

Dr. Al Qubaisi expressed her gratitude to Prof. Lammert for the hospitality and warm reception, and conveyed to the German leadership, government and people the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, as well as the people of the UAE.

"On the political front, there are many initiatives and mutual links we share with Germany" said Al Qubaisi.

She also presented the parliamentary achievements of the FNC during the 16th legislative chapter, with emphasis on the Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, held in Abu Dhabi last December.

The UAE official thanked Prof. Lammert for supporting the UAE s stances, and for understanding its views on defending the values of international law and legitimacy, and rejecting interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

She also referred to the issue of the three UAE islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa, occupied by Iran, and the legitimate demands of the UAE to settle this issue peacefully, or through the International Court of Justice.

Prof. Lammert expressed his satisfaction at Dr. Al Qubaisi s presentation about the situation in the region, while highlighting the efficient role of the UAE in achieving regional stability. He also praised the political and the cultural role of the UAE, and its diplomacy.
