DUBAI, 3rd June, 2016 (WAM) – Khalid Ali bin Zayed, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Planning, Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Agriculture and Fisheries at the Federal National Council (FNC), received today in Dubai Dr. Hayat Ahmed Mahi, Chairperson of the Committee on Energy, Water, Mining and Industry, at the National Assembly of Sudan.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohammed Salem Al Mazrouei, Secretary-General of the FNC.

During the meeting the two sides stressed the depth and durability of existing relations between the two parliaments, thanks to the patronage and support by the leaders of the two countries.

They underscored the importance of parliamentary friendship committees and their substantial role in bolstering co-operation between the two parliaments. The two sides also discussed the political empowerment of women in the UAE and the achievements so far.

Dr. Mahi invited the FNC delegation to visit the Sudanese National Assembly to discuss ways to strengthen the existing co-operation and develop relations between the two sides.

Bin Zayed said the UAE is keen to strengthen trade and investment ties with Sudan and other African countries.

He noted that Sudan has abundant natural resources and many areas with a potential for investment, especially the food security, and stressed the importance of facilitating investment in various sectors.

The UAE official emphasised that the parliaments could be bridges of co-operation and communication, and strengthen ties in various educational, political, economic and investment fields.

Bin Zayed said that Emirati women occupy the highest positions, including ministerial portfolios and leading the Federal National Council, as well as representing the country abroad as ambassadors.
