PARIS, 3rd October, 2016 (WAM)— France strongly condemned on Monday the attack carried out against a UAE vessel on 30th September by the Houthis, and re-affirmed the importance of the principle of freedom of navigation in the Bab al-Mandab strait.

“France reaffirms the urgent need to reach a political solution, the only way to prevent a further deterioration in the humanitarian and security situation and to effectively combat terrorism. As such, the formation of a so-called “national salvation” government by the Houthis on 2nd October runs counter to the inter-Yemeni negotiation process,” a statement issued by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The French foreign ministry reaffirmed France’s “full support for the efforts of UN Special Envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, with whom we are in regular contact.”
