JEDDAH, 23rd May 2016 (WAM) – The foreign ministers of GCC countries held a meeting today with their Canadian counterpart Stephane Dion in Jeddah today, as part of the strategic dialogue between the two sides. the meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Nizar Obaid Madani, Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and the current chair of the GCC Ministerial Council.
Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs headed the UAE’s delegation to the meeting.
In his opening address, Dr. Madani said the meeting was aimed furthering the GCC’s exceptional relations with Canada to realise regional security and peace and that the two sides share identical views on the need to achieve just and lasting peace.
The Candian Foreign Minister emphasised the importance Canada attaches to its relations with the GCC countries and the need to develop economic cooperation and to rally efforts in order to deliver humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people.
The GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdulatif Al Zayani said the GCC and Canada’s strategic dialogue represents a major shift in the two sides’ relations and joint interests, particularly in political, economic and cultural domains.
