ABU DHABI, 18th November, 2015 (WAM) — In an ongoing situation, gunfire has been heard in the northern Parisian suburb of Saint Denis since the early hours of this morning.

Police sources have said the shooting was connected to the hunt for fugitives following Friday’s attacks. A French journalist in the area is reporting that two or three men have barricaded themselves into an apartment in the centre of the suburb. He also says people are being evacuated from the local area.

The BBC says there have been reports of explosions and what it called “heavy, heavy gunfire” in Saint Denis. People have been told to stay at home, with residents from the area sealed off by police being taken to shelters.

While reporters in the immediate area are saying that the gunfire has now stopped, there are unconfirmed reports that one or more police officers have been injured.

The AFP news agency is now reporting that Abaaoud Abdelhamid, the alleged mastermind of Friday’s attacks, is the target of police in the operation.
