ABU DHABI -- H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, EAD, has received, at the Al Nakheel Palace, a delegation from the steering committee of Abu Dhabi Fishermen's cooperative societies.

Sheikh Hamdan was introduced by Mohammed Mejren Butti Humaid Al Marar, Chairman of the committee, to its mission and specialisation to study the conditions of co-operative fishing societies in Abu Dhabi, market their affairs, compile their rights and commitments, and to prepare a full report on the conditions and activities of these associations, as well as their branches, financial centres and bank accounts, during the term of its board of directors.

Sheikh Hamdan highlighted the desire of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to support fishermen and provide them with a dignified living, as well as the appropriate family, health and community.

He then stated that the country's wise leadership is providing all its support to fishermen, and considers them as an important national social sector that provides an important strategic product, as one of the sectors that are most in need, as well as to prevent its decline.

Sheikh Hamdan called for advancing the fishing profession, strengthening the role of fishermen, maintaining this noble profession, and encouraging the country's sons to practice and maintain it for future generations.

Al Marar and other members of the committee said they valued the initiatives of His Highness President Sheikh Khalifa and his constant support for the fishing profession, and for encouraging and maintaining it for future generations.

They added that the support of the wise leadership for fishermen has eased their difficulties and decreased the burdens of practicing their profession, which represents the heritage of their fathers and grandfathers.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Director of the East Asia and Pacific Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Staff Major General Pilot Faris Khalaf Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Chief of the General Authority for the Security of Ports, Borders and Free Zones, and Ahmed Thani Murshid Ghannam Al Rumaithi, Assistant Secretary-General for Fish Resources at EAD.
