VIENNA/ 7th April, 2016 (WAM) :– More than 200 senior officials and experts from around the world are expected to attend an IAEA conference next week on effective regulatory systems for nuclear safety and security as well as radiation safety.
Participants in the 11-15 April conference – including nuclear regulators from Member States and representatives of international organisations – will discuss the strengthening of such systems and future challenges and actions.
The conference coincides with the 10th anniversary of the launch of IAEA Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) missions and provides an opportunity to examine the experiences of Member States in implementing lessons learned from these expert peer reviews. IRRS missions are designed to strengthen the effectiveness of national nuclear regulatory infrastructures. By early May, the IAEA will have conducted a total of 76 IRRS missions since 2006.
