Pakistan’s Ambassador to UAE, Asif Durrani on Thursday said the international community should take cognizance of the plight of the Kashmiri people who have been subjugated by Indian occupation.
He expressed these views while speaking at a function held at the Embassy of Pakistan, Abu Dhabi to observe “Kashmir Solidarity Day”.
A large number of PakistaniKashmiri community in the UAE assembled at the Embassy premises to show solidarity with their Kashmiri brethren and to condemn the human rights violations committed by the Indian forces ever since India and Pakistan gained independence.
Ambassador Durrani said that the purpose of the observance of Solidarity Day was to highlight and express solidarity with the Kashmiri people who are facing Indian occupation and atrocities for the past 68 years.
He said that, “on this day, the people of Pakistan renew their resolve to continue their support for struggling Kashmir brothers and sisters till they achieve their cherished objective.
“Our leadership has also made it clear that the people of Kashmir deserve their right to selfdetermination and India should stop suppressing Kashmiri people’s legitimate struggle.”
Ambassador Durrani recalled that Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, while addressing the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly, had forcefully raised the Kashmir issue and called upon the United Nations and its member countries to play their role in resolving the decades old issue of Kashmir in accordance with Kashmiri peoples’ right of self determination.
Ambassador Durrani added that Pakistan had taken serious note of the crossborder violations on the Line of Control which was a violation of the bilateral agreement between Pakistan and India reached in 2003.
He said that the Government of Pakistan would continue its political, moral and diplomatic support to the struggle of the Kashmiri people for their right to selfdetermination.
He also mentioned the recent floods in Kashmir and Indian government’s apathy in addressing the plight of Kashmiri victims.
Local community also addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of the day.
The speakers reaffirmed the resolve of Kashmiris to continue the liberation struggle despite Indian state terrorism, till the objective was achieved.
They noted that in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions, India was morally and legally bound to give the Kashmiri people their cherished right of selfdetermination as enshrined in the UN Charter.
They called upon the international community to help resolve the dispute in accordance with the wishes of Kashmiri people.
They also stressed that India should engage in a substantive and sustained dialogue with Pakistan for resolving the Kashmir issue acceptable to the people of Kashmir.
The audiences were shown a documentary on the plight of Kashmir people.
At the end of the function, special prayers were offered for the Kashmiri martyrs and for an early resolution of Kashmir dispute.
