Islamic Development Bank pledges continuous support for human development in member countries

JEDDAH -- The Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank, IsDB, has pledged continuous support for investments and activities aimed at promoting comprehensive human development including earthquake resilience in its member countries, President of the IsDB Group, has announced.

The IsDB Group is establishing a new "Resilience and Enhancement Department" in order to provide more efficient operations in earthquake resilience, Dr. Bandar Hajjar said in Istanbul, during a visit to Okmeydani Research and Training Hospital and Refet Angin Primary School projects being financed by the IsDB through Istanbul Seismic Risk Mitigation and Emergency Preparedness Project, ISMEP.

The IsDB has pumped US$220 million in the Okmeydani Hospital which, when completed, will serve 50,000 inpatients and 1.5 million outpatients annually with 1,099 beds in a high-quality health facility.

Under ISMEP, the IsDB supports the reconstruction of 22 schools, in addition to the Okmeydani Hospital, in Istanbul.

The IsDB pumped $110 million in the plan launched for schools.
