GAZA, 12th May, 2016 (WAM) — The Palestine Prisoner’s Society, PPS, said earlier today that the number of Palestinians held in administrative detention has reached 750 for the first time since 2008.

Israeli forces have placed 647 Palestinians in administrative detention without trial or charge since October 2015, the Palestine Prisoner’s Society, PPS, said in a statement.

It added that Israeli military courts have issued 1,144 administrative detention orders against Palestinians since 1st October, 2015.

Under administrative detention rules, Israel says that it can detain Palestinians without charge or trial for up to six months, and that can be renewed indefinitely by military courts on the basis of secret evidence.
