Japan to extend grant aid of US$300,000 for vaccination campaigns in Syria

TOKYO, 2nd August, 2016 (WAM) -- The Government of Japan today decided to extend Emergency Grant Aid of US$300,000 through the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) for multi-antigen vaccination campaigns in Syria.

A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said this emergency grant aid is to provide support for nationwide multi-antigen vaccination campaigns in Syria, such as vaccination plan and coordination, procurement of multi-antigen vaccines and social communication activities for the campaigns.

The vaccination coverage rate for people inside Syria, such as in the case of measles, have sharply declined because of limited public health services due to the crisis in Syria, the statement noted.
