TOKYO, 14th January, 2017 (WAM) — Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshige Seko left Tokyo today for Abu Dhabi to attend the World Future Energy Summit, to be held there as one of the world’s largest events for environmental technology and renewable energy.

Seko will also hold talks with the UAE Ministers to confirm Japan’s interest in renewing offshore oilfield rights and also assure them that Japan intends to strengthen relations with the UAE, according to the Ministry.

Japan’s oilfield rights in Abu Dhabi are due to expire in March 2018 and negotiations are expected to get under way in the first half of this year, the Ministry said, noting that the oilfields in Abu Dhabi account for 40 percent of the oilfields Japan has across the world.
