JHCO, Danish Refugee Council team up for GBV awareness project

The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) signed an agreement to facilitate educational sessions and psychological counseling aimed at tackling gender-based violence (GBV) through a project called “Reassurance,” which is funded by Denmark. The JHCO has released a statement, indicating that their two-year initiative aims to reach out to 1,060 individuals from both the local community and refugees, delivering impactful sessions facilitated by experts in protection, human rights, and family counseling. The statement said the roots of GBV can be traced back to gender-biased behaviors and discriminatory practices, as well as the vulnerability of beneficiaries to abuse, exploitation, and insecurity. Secretary-General of the JHCO Hussein Shibli said that humanitarian sector workers seek to address all issues affecting both refugees and host communities, endeavoring to identify projects that offer a remedy to the long-term social, psychological, and physical impacts endured by individuals and societies. The DRC, for its part, has emphasized that partnering with local entities is pivotal in bringing about a lasting impact on affected communities, with the ultimate objective of advancing a positive shift in the discourse on GBV.
