Jordanian Army engages armed infiltrators, kills 12

AMMAN, 24th January, 2016 (WAM) -- Border Guards on the Kingdom of Jordan's frontiers with Syria engaged a group of armed persons trying to infiltrate the borders into Jordanian territory, killing 12 of them and injuring a number of others, a Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) source told Petra, the official news agency of Jordan.

According to Petra, the source said that the group comprised 36 people, some whom were carrying weapons while others carried materials that couldn't be immediately identified, adding that the army dealt with the situation in accordance with the rules of engagement.

The source indicated that 12 members of the group were killed, some others were injured, while the rest fled back inside Syrian territory. After the confrontation, the army seized 2.1 million narcotic pills.

The JAF source said that the armed forces will not tolerate any such attempts and will use the necessary force to deal with those who attempt to undermine the country's national security.
