AMMAN, 21st January, 2016 (WAM) — His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan has discussed with the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Mogens Lykketoft, the role of the United Nations and its bodies in addressing the Syrian refugee crisis which continues to place massive pressure on Jordan as the Kingdom hosts about 1.3 million Syrian refugees.

According to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the King thanked the UN bodies for the support and assistance they extend to ease the impact of the refugee crisis. In this context, the UN official renewed the international organisation’s support to Jordan to help it grapple with the refugee crisis and achieve comprehensive development.

The talks touched on a number of Middle East issues, including the crisis in Syria and the latest developments in Iraq.
