AMMAN, 6th January, 2016 (WAM) — The Lower House of Parliament of Jordan has strongly condemned the storming of the Saudi Embassy in Tehran and its Consulate in Mashhad, saying that it violates international law.

The House voiced full solidarity and support with Saudi Arabia in countering terrorism and extremism, according to the Jordan state news agency, Petra.

Speaker Atef Tarawneh read out a statement which stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty and independence of Arab Gulf states, stopping interference in their internal affairs, and enhancing the unity of the Arab and Islamic nation.

“The actions and statements of the Iranian government serve enemies of the nation, who seek to incite sedition and distort the image of Islam,” the statement said, urging Iran to change its policy towards its Arab neighbors and stop targeting the security of Saudi Arabia and other Arab Gulf states.

It also praised Saudi Arabia’s role in preserving stability in the region as well as its efforts to form a military alliance to fight terrorism.
