LUANDA, CAPE TOWN, 29th June 2016 (WAM) – Kimberley Process (KP) Chair Ahmed bin Sulayem has visited Angola and South Africa to discuss the progress made by diamond producing countries, in compliance with requirements to be followed in processing raw diamonds.

In Luanda, bin Sulayem met with President Jose Eduardo dos Santos, where they discussed the commitments made by Angola to KP and efforts to support certification of rough diamonds, as well as plans to re-integrate Venezuela into the KP.

Angola features among the top five diamond exporting countries to the UAE, with total exports of over 6 million carats registered in 2015.

In Johannesburg, bin Sulayem also met with South African Minister of Mineral Resources Mosebenzi Joseph Zwane and discussed the progress made in the Republic of Central Africa to guarantee a more stable future in that African country.
