KUWAIT, Jan 8 (KUNA) — Kuwait is a firm believer in freedom of expression, and is vehemently opposed to all forms of violence, Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Sabah said on Sunday.

Sheikh Salman was speaking at the first conference of the Arab Media Women Union (AMWN), which kicked off Sunday under the title ‘Media and Violence’, Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, reported.

Moreover, he spoke of the need to form a media strategy to stifle the rise of violence, at a time where social media is rife with turbulent content that could make youth condone such aggressive tendencies.

The Minister of Information urged all media outlets to join forces to stave off the mounting threat of violence, which is primarily a security concern in addition to a social issue.

On the strategy to address escalating violence, he noted that media outlets should employ the latest technological means to espouse such virtues as benevolence, forgiveness and moral conduct.

Meanwhile, AMWN’s Chairperson Asmaa Habashi, said that it has been a year since AMWN’s inception, noting that it has proven itself to be a force to be reckoned with in the Arab media world.

She said that it was imperative to hold this event since political instability in most parts of the Arab world has given way to violence that has plagued society as a whole.
