X X X 2017 The honouring ceremony took place at Emirates Palace, where H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan stated that education is the main foundation of national development in the UAE, with the generous care of the wise leadership, represented by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Their Highnesses the Rulers of the UAE.

During his attendance and patronage of the 10th Khalifa Award for Education 2016/2017 today at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, with the attendance of H.H. Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan added that the award, with the generous patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has established its stature as an Arab educational award of international standard, strengthening the efforts of the UAE and all Arab countries to advance education and encourage those working in this field to adopt initiatives and projects to improve the educational process, supported by relevant research and studies.

H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan honoured the current award's 36 winners from the UAE and the Arab world, while also honouring Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance and President of Zayed University, for winning the current Educational Personality Award in appreciation for her contributions in strengthening education.

The event was attended by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development; Ahmed Juma Al Zaabi, Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs; Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education; Jameela bint Salem Al Muhairi, Minister of State for Public Education; Dr. Ahmad bin Abdulla Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Higher Education; Ahmed Mohammed Al Humairi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs; Hamad Abdul Rahman Al Madfa, Secretary-General for the Supreme Council of the Union in the Ministry of Presidential Affairs; Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Health Authority; Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, and a number of under-secretaries of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, and Dr. Khalid Al Karaki, President of the Jordan Academy of Arabic, and Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri the Executive Director of School Operations at the Abu Dhabi Education Council, as well as a number of members of the diplomatic corps and academic and educational leaderships from inside and outside the country.

During his speech, H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighted the role of the first generation of educators who carried the message of education with dedication, adding that good education is a protection of identity and a guarantee of stability and sustainable development. He further added that there is no sustainable development without serious investment in education, to train creative national manpower who are capable of running a competitive economy based on knowledge.

H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan pointed out that the number of Emirati and Arab winners from the award's ten cycles reached 313 winners, who received awards in 12 categories. He also announced that for its next 2017/2018 cycle, the award will add a new category to the Education and Community Service category for families with multiple awards.

He then congratulated the winners of this year's awards and thanked the members of the award's board of trustees and its executive committee, the sorting and judging committees, co-ordinators and those working in educational at home and abroad, as well as all individuals and local, regional and international institutions that offered support.

H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as patron of the ceremony, met before its launch with a number of teachers and executives of the first generation, who contributed to education in the UAE. He expressed his appreciation for their efforts in education, while expressing his pride for their achievements.

At the end of the ceremony, Amal Al Afifi, Secretary-General of the Khalifa Award for Education, presented the award's armour as a commemorative gift to H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
