ABU DHABI, 29th April, 2016 (WAM)–The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation held a number of awareness activities to mark World Day for Safety and Health at Work, attended by more 500 workers.
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an annual international campaign to promote safe, healthy and decent work. It is observed by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) since 2003.
Maher Al Obed, Assistant Under-Secretary of the Ministry for Human Resources and Emiratisation, stressed the keenness of the ministry to spread safety and occupational health culture to both production partners: employee and employer to create a work environment free from risks.
He said the ministry obliges private sector firms to implement the safety and occupational health standards, and monitoring of adherence of these firms to the standards through inspection visits.
Al Obed noted that the ministry obliges private enterprises to report occupational injuries suffered by workers at work places, adding that in case of non-compliance a fine of AED10, 000 is slapped on an errant firm in accordance with the Cabinet Resolution No. 40 of 2014. He added that other administrative measures are also taken until a violation is rectified.
The 28 April event has also long been associated with the world’s trade union movement’s commemoration of the victims of occupational accidents and diseases.
