ABU DHABI - The historic meeting at the Vatican of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Pope Francis, head of the Roman Catholic Church, sends the UAE's strong message that efforts should be made to achieve rapprochement and overcome challenges facing the world, said Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC) on Thursday.

In a statement, she stressed that the meeting between H.H. Sheikh Mohamed and Pope Francis was historic because they are leaders who uphold the values of love and peace and stress the need for promoting ethics and bolstering humanity.

"This is a strong and sincere message from the UAE to the world that efforts should be combined to achieve rapprochement and co-existence and overcome potential challenges facing the international community and all humanity. The visit embodies the approach of tolerance and human partnership being pursued by the UAE where people of 200 nationalities and different faiths, tongues and cultures live, work and worship with complete freedom and face no discrimination based on religion, colour, sex or identity," Al Qubaisi added.

The timing of the visit is also significant because it comes at a time when chaos ,wars, poverty, migration and hate are rampant, she noted.

She expressed the UAE's appreciation at the efforts being made by Pope Francis to counter extremist and violent ideologies and attempts to insult religious sanctities. "Hence, the significance of the historic meeting between H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and the head of the Roman Catholic Church, which in fact was a meeting point for the two bridges of Islamic tolerance and Christian tolerance on which millions of believers and lovers of peace and freedom are walking."

The UAE is a global leader in the spread of tolerance, thanks to its founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Al Qubaisi further noted.

The meeting today between Sheikh Mohamed and Pope Francis serves all humanity and helps Muslims and Christians in countering all manifestations of hate, feud, extremism and takfiri ideology that fuel terrorism and threaten human co-existence, she said.
