FUJAIRAH -- H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, attended the first Fujairah Antiquities Conference at Al Diar Siji Hotel on Wednesday.

The event, organised by the Fujairah Tourism and Antiquities Authority, is being held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, and Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, President of the Asian Bodybuilding Federation (ABBF) attended the opening ceremony.

Commenting on the conference, the Fujairah Crown Prince said, "The UAE is rich with its heritage and historical landmarks, which record the history of our region and norms." He also stressed the need for academic departments with scientific and practical expertise to preserve this historic legacy.

Sheikh Nahyan also praised the continuous and innovative efforts to preserve history and the nation s legacy. He extended thanks to Sheikh Hamad for his interest in the history and heritage, to emphasise the importance of culture and antiquities in the development of the UAE.

Sheikh Nahyan thanked Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad for attending the event. He recalled the directives of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who said, "Not paying attention to history would lead to a lack of interest in the future, and the successful future is an extension of our knowledge and appreciation of our old history".

He also offered thanks, and pledged loyalty to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; and Supreme Council Members, Their Highnesses Rulers of the Emirates.

A number of officials attended the event.
