DUBAI, 16th October 2016 (WAM) — Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum today visited the GITEX 2016, the largest technology exchange and marketplace for Middle East and Africa, currently being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

Sheikh Mohammed began his tour by visiting the Dubai Internet City’s stand and watched a show about latest technology initiative there, including ‘VISA’, which provides smart and innovative solutions.

He was accompanied during the tour by Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director of Dubai Ruler’s Court, Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman, Director-General of Dubai Protocol and Hospitality Department and Helal Saeed Al Marri, CEO of the DWTC.

Sheikh Mohammed also stopped at the Microsoft stand, taking part in the event for the first time. He was briefed on the company’s latest product, Hololens, the world’s first self-contained, holographic computer, which is currently used by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) for remote maintenance of power generation plants.

Other stands visited by Sheikh Mohammed included Etisalat’s, which displays the latest smart solutions to government and private organisations, the Dell-EMC stand, the national pavilion of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, showing the initiatives launched recently as part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, and the stand of Dubai Silicon Oasis.

At the end of the tour, Sheikh Mohammed welcomed the exhibitors and visitors of GITEX, describing it as a global platform for smart solutions and initiatives that cater for economic, academic, tourism, security, environmental and energy sectors.

He said he was pleased with the significant 20 percent increase in the number of GITEX visitors, which reflects the growing interest among governments and people on this international show, hosted in Dubai.
