The Office of the Inspector General at the Ministry of Interior, represented by Internal Auditing Office, recently organized an introductory educational workshop about the activities, tasks, and objectives of internal auditing at the Ministry of Interior. The workshop was intended for staff members at the General Directorate of Civil Defense and the General Directorate of Punitive and Correctional Establishments, in cooperation with a company specialized in internal auditing.
Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Inspector General of the Ministry of Interior, said: “Organizing the workshop reflects the ministry’s keenness to implement the internal auditing charter and methodology for the federal government, according to international best standards, in a bid to provide high quality government services.”
He continued: “The workshop aims at raising awareness about the importance of internal auditing on risk management at the ministry; to identify the essential observations that may affect the procedures and processes of the MoI, and to provide opportunities for improvement.”He also noted that internal auditing is instrumental in protecting the reputation of the Ministry of Interior and raising the value of its services.
During the workshop, Captain Hamad Salem Al Mansouri, from the Internal Auditing Office; Lieutenant Khaled Jamal Al Saadi; and Mr. Alaa Borhani gave an overview of the objectives, jurisdictions, methodology, and powers of the internal auditing office.
The attendees reviewed the benefits of internal auditing at the Ministry of Interior compared to the traditional approach, as well as the leading practices, types of observations, the concept of risks records, understanding the internal environment, prioritizing and regulatory tools. They also discussed the internal auditing task and the duration of the auditing process that will be carried out at the various departments affiliated to the General Directorate of Civil Defense and the General Directorate of Punitive and Correctional Establishments, as well as reports writing and follow-up of observations during the auditing process and action plans.
